![]() Hi all, I was hoping somebody could give me some guidance on the subject of protocols.
I am very new to the world of Practice Management and have been pretty shocked at the number of protocols that we have in the surgery. A lot of them are out of date or, in my view, unecessary. Cleary I need to be compliant and not miss anything in this respect but I was wondering if there was a list somewhere that defined the compulsory protocols a practice must have to meet its contractual/QOF/legal requirements. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks Steve |

![]() Try
http://www.equip.ac.uk/practiceManag...cols/index.htm They are PDF files but low cost PDF converters abound. As for what protocols do you need, I would guess it depends whom you ask. For the minimum ask a doctor and they would state QOF only. Ask an admin and everything requires a bit of paper. In reality in between I would have thought. |

![]() I did ask this before but the thread seems to have been culled so I guess I have to blame the website operator! ;-)
Has anyone defined any dementia protocols or can they post a URL of where there may be some to be modified? |

![]() culled???
![]() for dementia protocols- I am not sure I have any management protocols but the best place to get the PHQ (2 and9) tests, and the beck inventory, MMSE etc is http://www.medal.org the medical algorithm site. you have to join, which is free, and you can download the files in excel format or use the online program. PHQ9 is uploaded here below: The Patient Health Questionnaire Module for Depression (PHQ-9) was developed for the evaluation of patients in primary care for evidence of depression. It is based on the diagnostic criteria of the DSM-IV. It was developed as part of the PRIME-MD project <?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = O /><O:P></O:P>

![]() Thanks Pruritus for the info.
Guess I'm still a bit green - but it seems a little odd to have some of the clinical protocols. I imagine every doctor does things a little differently and so really detailed procedures are not relevant. Certain things presumably have NICE guidelines and so on which is fine but wou;d there be a 'standard ' protocol for this somewhere that we all need to work to? Some of the admin ones such as H&S and so on are of course needed and I fully understnad the need for these. Thanks again Steve |

![]() Hi Steve
My advice with the Protocols would be get all you need for the contract, then concentrate on anything with a H &S issue.....after that If you want uniformity within the practice and staff have issues with complying do a Protocol and get all to sign up to it. Carabine ![]()

![]() Thanks Carabine, (sorry for delay in reply). I think you are right, this is pretty much the approach I am taking. Will take a while to sort out but it has to be done!

![]() Greetings from the planet Wales. We're always happy to share information. Hopefully I've attached a list of most of the ones we have. We seem to be writing new ones and updating others all the time.
Let me know if you want any more. Pam Attree |

![]() Hey Pam , thanks for posting. I've got 170 which I have now (since posting originally) organised. There was no attachment in your post I'm afraid. Do you fancy trying again?
Thanks Steve |
